Rory McIlroy is just a shot off the lead at the Northern Trust Open.

The world number three carded five birdies and just one bogey in California as he carded a 4-under par 67 for his opening round.


He is just behind the leading trio of Luke List, Bubba Watson and Chez Reavie who are all on 5-under par.

Padraig Harrington carded a level par 71 for his opening round.
