Warburton confident the Lions can live with the pressure

Lions captain Sam Warburton is relishing the opportunity to start a test match on Tour as the visitors look to even the series with New Zealand.

The Welshman arrived down south struggling for match-fitness as he was recovering from a knee injury.

He has played a bit-part role so far and replaced Peter O'Mahony in the first test last Saturday. Warren Gatland has named him to start this weekend and the back-rower couldn't hide his excitement.

“I am delighted with selection for this weekend," he said, adding: "It is probably the most nervous I have ever been going into a team selection meeting this week.

“I really didn’t know what was going to happen, I thought some guys played absolutely brilliantly on Tuesday and could have come straight into the Test team which we saw happen last week.

“I was very nervous but I am delighted to be starting in the Test series.”

The pressure will all be on the Lions in the second test as they need a win to keep the series alive but Warbruton is confident the squad will rise to the occasion.

"In competitions, guys have all been through this before, and we went through it four years ago in Australia with the Lions before the third Test, guys are used to that pressure," he said.
