Wayne Rooney admits making the top four will be 'difficult' now

Manchester United captain Wayne Rooney has admitted that it is going to be an uphill struggle to qualify for the Champions League.

Speaking after their loss to Sunderland today, the English international said that they will struggle to make the top four, and may have to focus their efforts elsewhere in order to qualify.

"It will be difficult to qualify for the Champions League and the top four now," he said to BT Sport.

"Its a sad day for us, disappointing, in terms of losing the three points but we have to somehow move on."

However, Rooney hasn't lost all hope of qualifying for next years elite European competition, adding:

"You dont know how this PL works at times.

"We know its going to be difficult to finish top four but the Europa League might be (a way).

"Obviously the winners of that qualify but thats a long, long way away."
