Wayne Rooney out for up to two months with knee injury - reports

Reports emerging this afternoon indicate that Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney will be out for up to two months due to a knee injury.

The England striker was excluded from the squad that will travel to Denmark to face FC Midtjylland tomorrow evening in the Europa League.

It was initially thought that manager Louis van Gaal had decided to leave the 30-year-old behind to give him a rest.

The club captain did not appear to suffer an injury during last weekend's 2-1 defeat to Sunderland at the Stadium of Light.

Rooney will now face a race to be fit again and Van Gaal will be hoping to have his striker back for their runs in the Europa Legaue and FA Cup, which now appear to be United's best option for European football next season.

Rooney has scored seven times in the league so far this season. Van Gaal will appear before media this afternoon to give an update on the squad before tomorrow's game.
