"We had to up our game for them" - Philly McMahon praises Dublin coaching team after All-Ireland win

Philly McMahon won his fourth All-Ireland title on Saturday evening when Dublin defeated Mayo.

The 2015 All-Star started in three of the four final wins. He came off the bench in the second half of the 2011 as Dublin defeated Kerry.

Three of McMahon's four All-Ireland titles have come under Jim Gavin's stewardship, and the Ballymun Kickhams star has praised the role Gavin and his backroom team for their role since the 2013 season.

"The management team were immense over the last two weeks", McMahon told the Dublin GAA official website. "We really noticed they upped their game, so we had to up our game for them."

"They try to support us in every way, and that creates the environment we’re in, and the talk that goes on around that environment, and that helped us massively."

Since Gavin has taken charge of Dublin, the team have won three out of a possible four All-Ireland titles. In 24 championship games, the team's only loss was the 2014 All-Ireland semi-final to Donegal, where the Ulster side won by six points.

After winning his first All-Star last season, the 29-year-old looks on course to win his second award this year.
