"We might have to win ugly" - New Sunderland boss David Moyes looks ahead to Premier League return

New Sunderland David Moyes says he wants to bring "stability" to the club and insists he is not afraid to "win ugly" in order to do so.

"I'm more excited about this challenge because of the stadium, the fans and the owner," he told reporters at his first press conference this afternoon.

"Sunderland have potential that many clubs don't have, but we have to progress. I want to win. Winning is the biggest thing for me."

Moyes joins the club after short spells with Manchester United and Real Sociedad both ended in the sack, but says he is ready to better his Premier League record.

"The job is to win the games. Maybe at the start we might have to win ugly, but as we go along I want the supporters to be excited.

"I have the fourth best winning record in the Premier League. I don't want to lose that, I want to better it."

He added: "This has to be a building job. I'm here for four years and I'm aiming to bring stability."

David Moyes spent the majority of his time in the English top flight managing Everton, and says he sees a lot of similarities between the two clubs.

"This reminds me a lit bit of Everton when I took over - they had been in bottom six four out of five years when I came in," he said.

"You're not going to change it in one transfer window. We want to get the right players at the right price, players who will do their time with us, improve and make the team better.

"You've got to remember where Sunderland have finished in the last few years, so this has now got to be a building job.

"Modern management means more and more managers will take breaks during their careers. I really enjoyed my break, but this is what I do and I want to get back and get on with it.

"I've been in Spain and they have the best teams, but the Premier League is the league everyone wants to watch."

The Scot also confirmed his interest in Manchester United duo Marouane Fellaini and Adnan Januzaj as he prepares to bring reinforcements into the club.

"If any of those good players want to join me I’d be happy to have them because they’re excellent players. We’re interested."

Moyes worked with Fellaini at Everton before bringing him to Manchester United. He also brought Januzaj into the first team in 2013.
