"We need time but we don't have time" - Pep Guardiola thinks Man City must learn to play like Barcelona

Pep Guardiola has outlined his plan for change after holding his first press conference as the new manager of Manchester City.

Guardiola, who won 21 trophies during his combined time at Barcelona and Bayern Munich, argues that City will have to show improvements quickly at the start of next season, in order to please fans who have been waiting for silverware since 2014.

In addition, they barely squeezed through to the Champions League and will have to survive a qualifying round as a result, indicating that reassurance is needed.

Guardiola cautioned that while he has no plans to change the culture in English football, he believes that replicating Barcelona's style of play could pave out a path to progression.

Speaking to media, he said:

"I am here to try to think in the same way (as at Barcelona and Bayern). We are going to play that way because we were able to convince them that is the best way. It won't be easy. We need time but we don't have time. People don't expect to see in January and February how good we are, they expect to see in the first friendly game against Bayern Munich (this month) how good Pep is.

"I was lucky to train Barcelona and Bayern Munich with these amazing players and we won a lot of titles in a short time. The expectations now are the same. We will try.

"I don't need two months to know here will be completely different. When I see a guy who played here, like Xabi Alonso, I'm like, 'Tell me about England, tell me about the Premier League."
