"We tried to take the heat off ourselves" - Joe Bergin acknowledges big win over Kerry

Offaly progressed through the round robin phase of the hurling championship with victory over Kerry yesterday, a win which forward Joe Bergin believes will be crucial to the remainder of their season.

They progress to the quarter-finals of the Leinster hurling championship to face Laois.

"It was a massive challenge after we were in an awkward situation," he told Midlands 103, "Westmeath beat us and kind of knocked us a little. That wasn't part of our plan, but we got what we came for.

"There was a lot of pressure on us but we didn't look at it that way. From the outside looking in there was considering Kerry had beat us in the league already, but we tried to take as much heat of ourselves as we possibly could and concentrate on playing the game.

"Fellas emptied the tanks today, there was a lot of tired bodies out there. It was great for the lads, having a big crowd behind us to go out and get a score and the crowd gets behind you then."
