Wexford Youths' final league game of the season, away to Sligo Rovers, might see Wexford's manager absent from the sidelines.
Last season's First Division champions are currently in 11th place in the Premier Division, six points ahead of Longford Town with four games left. Shane Keegan's side are nine points behind Finn Harps, meaning an 11th or 12th place finish is most likely.
On the same night as the last game of the season, the First Division second leg promotion play-off will take place with two teams from Drogheda United, UCD and Cobh Ramblers taking part. If Wexford are guaranteed the play-off spot, Keegan may decide his is better served staying away from The Showgrounds.
Speaking to The Sun, Keegan revealed if that situation pans out, he may go the the play-off match.
“If it does play out like that and that game is meaningless, it’s not Sligo I would be going to because I think my services would be better used elsewhere.”
Wexford Youths are at home to Galway United on Friday night, while Longford Town are away to Sligo Rovers. Finn Harps make the long journey south to Cork City. The battle for survival, is as intriguing as Dundalk and Cork City's head-to-head run-in for the league title.
