Wexford boss Liam Dunne gives his reaction to penalty farce against Offaly

Wexford hurling manager Liam Dunne is glad that the penalty controversy that marred his side's win over Offaly did not have a bearing on the result.

A clear Wexford goal from a penalty was ruled out by officials, who thought it hit the post and rebounded to safety.

But Dunne's side fought back to win 1-21 to 1-13.

"I didn't know until half-time and it was never mentioned by anybody. I don't even know whether Mark Fanning knew after hitting the ball. Nobody knew. But I'm just delighted that it didn't come down to that," he told Off The Ball's Dave McIntyre.

The win puts Wexford into the second round of qualifiers where they could face more high profile opposition. But Dunne was just delighted that his players had booked their place in the next stage.

"I was delighted for the players. They put in a big effort over the past number of weeks and we needed a win today. That puts us into the second round of the qualifiers now where we'll be lambs to the slaughter I'd say by all accounts with people but a win can do major things for anybody at any stage," he said.
