What Belfast venues could host a Frampton-Santa Cruz rematch?

"I hope Leo is a man of his word. He said if there was a third time, he'd come to Belfast. I hope he does."

Those were the words of Carl Frampton in Las Vegas after he lost his WBA (Super) featherweight title to Leo Santa Cruz. The two men have won a fight apiece, with a third fight looking likely.

New York and Las Vegas have hosted the opening bouts, but Frampton is desperate to fight on front of his home fans, especially after more than 5,000 fans travelled to Las Vegas from Northern Ireland this week.

We look at the four venues in Belfast that could host the fight, if it took place in Frampton's home town.

Windsor Park

One of Northern Ireland's most famous fans, Frampton has yet to fight in Belfast's National Football Stadium. With a capacity of over 18,000, the Tiger's Bay fighter will have the opportunity to fight on front of his home fans on the biggest stage possible.

Before the loss to Santa Cruz, reports in Northern Ireland claimed that Frampton was lining up a unification bout with Lee Selby in the venue this summer. Windsor Park could still be used.

Kingspan Stadium

If for any reason, Frampton was not able to agree to terms about fighting in Windsor Park, a fight at the home of Ulster Rugby would be a fruitful alternative. The capacity is just under that of Windsor Park, but it's not an all-seater.

The terraced capacity may deter from a potential capacity attendance. Like Windsor Park, it will be largely dormant during the summer, until it hosts the Women's Rugby World Cup.

Titanic Quarter

The Titanic Quarter holds a special place in the heart of Frampton and his fans. It was at the custom-built venue where 'The Jackal' won his first World title in 2014.

16,000 fans attended the fight against Kiko Martinez there that summer. Before the fight, promoter Barry McGuigan said there was potential to have an event in the area that could host up to 30,000 fans.

The SSE Arena

Formerly known as The Odyssey, the 9,000-seater has hosted six Frampton fights, including his World title defence against Chris Avalos. It is the least likely of the four to host the fight, due to a limited capacity, but could be used if Frampton wanted an intimate intense atmosphere.

Despite the hope of the fight taking place in Belfast, Michael Conlan and Bernard Dunne are among the fighters proclaiming they feel the Mexican wont make the trip to Northern Ireland.
