Why are Arsenal suffering another injury crisis?

Arsenal's injury crisis continues to worsen with the news that Santi Cazorla is to miss up to three months after suffering a knee injury against Norwich at the weekend. Alexis Sanchez also suffered a hamstring injury in the same game.

Miguel Delaney spoke to Off the Ball last night about Arsenal's injury crisis. Could there be an institutional issue with how the club cope with injuries to their star players?

"The first time these injury crises became a proper issue was in December 2009. Wenger came out with the line 'We pick up more injuries than the other big teams , that is true. You can not say there is not a reason for it but we have not yet found it. It's the worst season for injuries for us'. It is amazing how predictable it has become... Here we are again, six years on, talking about yet another injury crisis and you can bet it will be the same issue next season", Delaney told Off the Ball.

Wenger "doesn't stage the player's recoveries in the way other clubs do", Delaney added. "It's more going from being injured to then doing more full team requirements in a quicker manner that might be expected".

Francis Coquelin has been one of Arsenal's best performers this season, and he needs to be replaced in the forthcoming transfer window to try and stay in the title race. "If they do bring in a player to replace Coquelin in January then it mightn't be as bad. If they do get another striker, not just to take some of the pressure of Alexis Sanchez, but I suppose it would be an upgrade on Giroud or Walcott then that wont be as bad."

Arsenal's next Premier League fixture is at home to Sunderland on Saturday.
