Yohan Cabaye completes move to Crystal Palace

Yohan Cabaye is back in the Premier League after Crystal Palace broke their club transfer record, dishing out £10m for the PSG midfielder.

The former Newcastle man made the big-money move to Paris in January of last year, but failed to find a regular berth in the Ligue 1 side, starting just 13 matches last season during the club’s domestic treble.

The transfer fee to bring the Frenchman back to England could rise to £13m with add-ons, well clear of the club’s previous record transfer which saw £7m being dished out to Wigan last year for the services of James McArthur.

It is the second time manager Alan Pardew has signed Cabaye. In 2011, he bought the France international from Lille as he went on to make 93 appearances for the Magpies.

Newcastle themselves look set to invest heavily in the transfer market this window, with Steve McLaren planning a summer spending spree. PSV Eindhoven’s Georginio Wijnaldum is increasingly likely to join the club, with the 24 year-old reportedly given permission to speak to the Premier League outfit this morning.

Elsewhere in this morning’s transfer news, Chelsea are said to be close to signing a replacement for Petr Cech as Stoke’s Asmir Begovic is on the brink of an £8m move. Shay Given is set to prove a vital cog in this switch, however, with the Potters keen to bring the Irishman to the Britannia Stadium before they allow the Bosnian to leave.
