You might be able to buy a 'Notorious' aftershave soon as Conor McGregor moves to register trademarks

The sale of the UFC has made an awful lot of money for a few people, notably Dana White and the Fertitta brothers, but in the wake of all the news about their deal, it seems that McGregor has been looking to make sure he protects his own rights.

While there may be a certain amount that he has already signed over to the UFC, Reebok or EA Sports as part of previous deals, the Dubliner has moved to put in place some measures that will mean he has some say over what he puts his name to.

Legal eagle Brian Conroy spotted that a number of petitions had been made by McGregor's company, McGregor Sports and Entertainment Limited, to trademark an array of different products in order to protect his merchandising rights.

Included in the documentation are three trademarks for ‘Conor McGregor’ , ‘The Notorious’ and ‘The Mac Life’. For each of the names, he's made an application for a vast array of different goods and services that could, one day, bear the McGregor name.

Included in the list are things that you might expect, such as "gymnastic and sporting articles," "clothing," "footwear," "headgear," and "gymnasium services." However, there are also some more unusual ones including aftershave, shaving foam, "provision of food and drink," and "hairdressing services."

You can read the full breakdown on Conroy's blog, which goes in to the detail of the applications and notes that, while they are for Ireland only, they may be used for international applications at a later date.

However, as Conroy also notes, he might have been a bit slow off the mark, as there has already been a petition on behalf of a barbers in Dublin to trademark 'Notorious 13', featuring an image of the man himself.

That may lead to a legal battle at some stage down the line, but for now Conor is making sure that he can retain, or even improve his place in the Forbes rich list next year.
