Zach Johnson disputes golf's inclusion in the Olympics

Zach Johnson has questioned whether golf deserves its inclusion at the Olympics.

A number of top golfers have pulled out of this year's Olympics golf tournament in Rio over Zika virus fears, including Jason Day, Jordan Spieth, Rory McIlroy and Shane Lowry.

But reigning Open champion Johnson is very unsure about golf's initial inclusion when the Majors and Ryder Cup remain the pinnacles in his profession.

"I don’t know if golf has its place in the Olympics now. We are relevant 24/7, 365 days of the year, if that’s your barometer and criteria relevancy. I think golf fans really look forward to the majors . . . and the Ryder Cup in particular. I know, as a player, those are my main motivations," he said.

"No offence to the Olympics but I’d rather be on the Ryder Cup team. As an American golfer I have that opportunity and that’s what I’d rather."
