Billy Joe Padden outlines the "many positives" Mayo can take from the Dublin draw

Billy Joe Padden feels Mayo can take many positives from their All-Ireland final draw against Dublin on Sunday.

Both teams will have to do it all again on October 1st after a thrilling encounter at Croke Park.

Ex-Mayo footballer Padden and Fermanagh manager Peter McGrath joined Off The Ball to review the game.

While Padden was concerned by some of Mayo's defending for the goal chances that Dublin created in the first -half, he was clearly impressed by the overall manner of their play.

"Generally going into the game we felt that Mayo more so probably than any other team had the players that could match up really well against the Dublin forward-line but never did I expect that they'd be able to match up so well that Dublin were half an hour in looking totally frustrated, loads of possession and just couldn't lay a glove on Mayo really apart from those goals," he said.

However, he feels that if Mayo had been able to get more out of their forwards in the first half, then they more than likely would have won the game.

"There's so many positives to take out of that for Mayo and I think knowing the mindset that they have at the minute, both teams will have this mindset that they can go on and improve over the next 13 days and put in a better performance to see the job done."

Meanwhile, McGrath feels that conditions led to errors from both sides, including the two own goals that Mayo conceded.

But he also feels that Mayo will take plenty of heart from their performance in the final, although he expects Dublin to thrive more in the replay especially if conditions improve.

And Padden believes Mayo can also improve from their showing and shouldn't be disheartened by not winning the final at the first attempt.
