Buffalo Bills make history in hiring a female coach

The Buffalo Bills have made history by hiring the first female full-time coach in NFL history.

Kathryn Smith is to become the team's special teams quality control coach. She has worked with the New York side in various roles since last year and has had over 13-years experience in the NFL.

Smith follows in the footsteps of Jenn Welter who worked with the Arizona Cardinals as a training-camp linebackers assistant coach at the start of this season. She was not kept on for the regular season.

Speaking of Smith's appointment, Buffalo Head Coach Rex Ryan said; “she certainly deserves this promotion based on her knowledge and strong commitment, just to name a couple of her outstanding qualities, and I just know she’s going to do a great job serving in the role of Quality Control-Special Teams.”

Some of Buffalo's players have taken to Twitter to praise the historic appointment.
