Monaghan star Conor McManus feels its understandable that Dublin and Diarmuid Connolly did try to appeal the player's 12 week suspension.
Ultimately, the Dublin forward is to accept his ban, with Dublin GAA deciding not to appeal the Central Hearings Committee decision to uphold the forward's suspension.
They and Connolly have opted against taking his case to the Central Appeals Committee.
McManus was speaking to Off The Ball's Dave McIntyre at the launch of the SuperValu #BehindTheBall campaign and gave his take on the Connolly issue before the final decision not to appeal, explaining that it's natural to try and look to have a suspension reduced or lifted.
"You're definitely going to try and push it to the limit and try and get off as best you can. You want to be playing football at this time of the year. Three months is a long suspension at this time of the year, so there's no doubt you're going to try and push for it whether you're in the right or wrong," he said.
"I was actually surprised when the news broke that they weren't appealing. You're definitely thinking to yourself, if that were me you'd try but it turned out they are appealing it and I don't think anybody in the country would blame them for that."
He added that three months is "a harsh suspension".
Monaghan defeated Cavan 1-15 to 0-15 in their Ulster Championship quarter final and wasting scoring opportunities is something the team want to address according to McManus.
"Whenever you win a game like that, you're very happy with yourself and things tend to be glossed over in your own head. But when you actually sit down and watch it, you realise how much work you still have to do. We kicked 15-16 wides," he said.
