Israel Dagg linked with a move to Leinster

New Zealand's Israel Dagg could be on his way to Leinster next season.

The 28-year-old, who played against Ireland last weekend, reportedly met with Leinster hierarchy last week, when he was in Dublin ahead of the 21-9 win.

According to the Irish Independent, Leinster face a battle to sign the 2011 World Cup winner, from Top 14 sides such as three-time European champions Toulon.

Dagg missed out on New Zealand's World Cup defence last year, but has played his way back into the team, starting the Autumn internationals in Dublin and against Italy in Rome. He also played in New Zealand's six Rugby Championship wins.

The potential signature of the Crusaders winger, will depend on getting the go-ahead from IRFU Performance Director David Nucifora. The Australian can veto any potential signings made by any province.

Dagg is contracted to the New Zealand Rugby Union until the Lions tour. If he was to join the RDS-based side, he would be expected to replace Zane Kirchner, whose contract expires at the end of the season.

If Dagg were to arrive, he would have to go a long way, to match the performances of former Munster winger Doug Howlett, who remains the best Kiwi-import in Irish rugby.
