eir Sport to broadcast the 2019 Rugby World Cup in Ireland

All 48 games from the 2019 Rugby World Cup will be shown live on eir Sport in Ireland.

The station, formally known as Setanta Sports has won the rights from TV3. The terrestrial station was the exclusive television broadcaster during the 2015 World Cup.

Despite showing all of the games in Japan, Ireland games, along with the opening match and the knockout games will all remain with a free-to-air broadcaster.

"Ireland has traditionally been a strong and passionate rugby market", World Rugby CEO Brett Gosper said at the announcement.

"We are delighted to be appointing a broadcaster that shares our enthusiasm for our showcase events in both the men's and women's games, as the exciting momentum continues towards what promises to be a ground-breaking Rugby World Cup 2019 in Japan and a thrilling Women's Rugby World Cup 2017 in Ireland."

The deal with eir also means that the 2017 Women's World Cup, along with the 2017, 2018 and 2019 World Under-20 Championships will also be shown by the broadcaster.

Setanta Sports last have exclusive rights to the World Cup during the 2011 event in New Zealand
