Is an "electric" Andrew Conway pushing his way up the Ireland pecking order?

One player to keep an eye out for at the start of this Pro14 season is Andrew Conway.

The Munster wing and full back made his Ireland debut during the 2017 Six Nations and has since won three caps.

But judging from the praise aimed at him by Keith Wood and Gerry Thornley on Wednesday Night Rugby, he could be a bolter when it comes to the pecking order for upcoming Ireland squads for November and potentially next Spring.

"Well, I thought last season he just seemed to raise another gear and it was interesting watching him at the weekend. He just looked on fire and sometimes there's a time for players to shine and for injuries to be put behind them, for dips in form to be put behind them and all you want to do is get a good start to the season and he was electric at the weekend," said Keith on tonight's show.

"He looked dangerous all the time."

Keith added that players and teams need 3-4 weeks to bed into a new season but that Conway is already up to speed.

"He didn't seem to need it. He was just flying at a million miles an hour which is great to see," he said.

Gerry also touched on Conway's form and how it will affect his place in the Ireland international reckoning.

"He's as hungry as he's ever been in his career and I guess he's looked around and seen players, contemporaries who've come after him after his stellar Under-21 World Cup and he's seen their progress," he said, pointing out that Conway added more strings to his bows last season.

"First off, I think players will be targeting November and the Six Nations and international honours but it's just so competitive in the provinces and he has hit the ground running in every sense."
