John Giles: Why Liverpool would suit Klopp

John Giles believes Liverpool would be a club that would suit Jurgen Klopp.

The German manager is leaving Borussia Dortmund this summer and John told Off The Ball that one Premier League club might well be made for him to thrive.

"Looking at his record, I think Liverpool could be a club that could be well suited for him. Liverpool are not one of the big spenders at the moment. That's what he had at Dortmund and they actually used to sell players. He kept them there and kept them there [near the top] every year. They won the league and he was very successful. So he obviously did that under the conditions that might be there at Liverpool," said John.

He also believes that they will have to "carry Wenger out of Arsenal", such is the veteran Frenchman's devotion to the job.

John also shared his memories of late Ireland international Ray Treacy, a player he signed for West Brom and Shamrock Rovers during his management career.

"He was a centre-forward and he wasn't very big. He played much bigger than he was. He was a very intelligent footballer. He wouldn't have been blessed with great ability, he would've been the first to tell you, but he was very intelligent and knew how to ruffle people, make a nuisance of himself, a very good header of the ball and a good positional player," said John, who added that Treacy proved a good foil for former Boys in Green striker Don Givens.

"I always felt there were two Rays. There was the Ray I knew as Ray and there was Rayo that the supporters knew. He was a hardshaw as they used to say. Off the pitch, he wasn't actually and was quite a private individual. I knew him for a long time. He had good life in him, with a great sense of humour and a good singer."
