Sligo Rovers problems 'will come to a head eventually' - Owen Heary

Last week, Stuart Byrne broke the news that Sligo Rovers and manager Owen Heary would be parting ways on Off The Ball.

Tonight the former Shelbourne midfielder and his ex-club team-mate joined us on the show as Heary explained the reasons why things came to a head between himself and the League of Ireland clubs.

Confirming that all issues have now been settled, he looked back at the day he was told that he would have to leave: "I was expecting to sit down with the board because there are a lot of problems there that I'd spoken to the chairman over. We were hoping to rectify them. I got a text then the day after basically telling me to hand back the keys of the house and the office and things like that, the players were told I was let go and the following day I got a phonecall again [from the chairman] to say that he made a mistake and the board didn't back him on it, so I didn't quite understand that."

He also revealed that his drawn-out departure from the club was never in relation to his compensation package.

Listen to the full interview via the podcast and you can see Stuart Byrne's predictions for this weekend's matches on Newstalk.com tomorrow afternoon.

Expanding on the deeper issues at the club, Heary also spoke about the issue of information leaking from the dressing room to the press and he believes the many issues faced by the Bit o' Red "will come to a head eventually" if cracks are only papered over.

"The budget has been cut for the last couple of years and this year when I went in, the budget was cut by 30 per cent again, so you can't get the experienced players that you want," he said, highlighting the financial constraints.
