James Horan expects Roscommon's post-New York evolution to continue against Sligo

James Horan expects to see Roscommon to continue their bounce back from a close run win over New York at the start of the Connacht championship when they meet Sligo this weekend.

The former Mayo manager, who was joined on Off The Ball by ex-Sligo boss Tommy Breheny to preview the game, feels Roscommon showed good signs last time out, adding that he expects them to tighten up defensively this time.

"Based on what I saw from Roscommon against Leitrim, they were very good. They've blown off the dust from the New York game and at times, they looked like a really top Division 1 team. So I think we're going to see maybe the next step in that evolution from Roscommon on Sunday and they'll be looking for a top performance," he said.

Meanwhile, Breheny said he'd "never seen such a low key build-up to a game involving Sligo and Roscommon".

While he admits the latter are favourites, he believes favourable conditions could aid Sligo to pull off a surprise.

"If Sligo perform on the day, if the weather and the elements are good, I think it will be to Sligo's advantage. They like to move the ball fast, they're a very fit team. I think if the conditions were poor, I think it would more favour Roscommon but I think if Sligo play to their potential, I think we have the forwards to knock up a big score. But it's all about how much we concede on the day."
