Jim McGuinness on Celtic, being inspired by Pep and Mourinho and worries over current gap in Gaelic football

Former Donegal manager Jim McGuinness has spoken of his worry about the gap that is growing between the top counties in Gaelic football and the rest.

The 2012 All-Ireland winner joined us on Off The Ball tonight to talk about a range of topics but shares his concerns about the current status quo.

"I would imagine there is a development plan for most counties but I wouldn't be so sure about the dynamic in terms of how that plan is overseen," he said.

"There seems to be development plans everywhere but no one seems to be moving anywhere and that is a worry because Dublin are moving forward. Kerry have fundraised a couple of million euro in the last 12 months alone in terms of their centre of excellence. They're pushing on because they're trying to retain their tradition of winning All-Irelands. If you don't have that tradition and you don't have the financial backing or the structure in place, how are you going to close the gap? So it is a worry at that level and I personally think county boards need to do more and Central Council needs to do more to help county boards to put structures in place that we do start ticking boxes because that's what we did in Donegal."

McGuinness also gave us an insight about life at Celtic FC, where he has gone from working with the academy to working with the first team and manager Ronny Deila. He also spoke about the teams that are currently inspiring him as he hones his tactical knowledge of soccer.

"There's some really exciting teams out there [like] Atletico Madrid, Bayer Leverkusen also have a really interesting coach in Roger Schmidt, obviously Pep Guardiola, defensively Mourinho. So there's loads and loads. Our own manager at Celtic here, his style probably more than anybody because I'm so close to the action."
