Keith Wood: Munster need far more in their armoury

Keith Wood feels Munster need to add more elements to their game in the future after their European Champions Cup adventure ended against Saracens at the semi final stage on Saturday.

The former Ireland captain was speaking to Off The Ball as he reviewed what both Munster and Leinster achieved in making runs to within a cusp of a European final.

On the defeat to Saracens, Wood feels Munster were lacking something in their approach.

"I thought Munster lacked ambition and I thought they lost their way in the second half," he said.

He also feels the shortcomings for Munster as seen against Saracens are fixable and that they need more elements to their attack.

"Well, how do you change it? It becomes harder. They're not going to be playing Saracens every week," he said.

"They will have very big matches coming up towards the end of the year if they get a win or even if they draw against Treviso at the weekend they're going to be in a home semi final. So they are going to have big games in the Pro 12 coming up. They won't be playing against a team that plays in the manner in which they do.

"If they were to play Leinster as an example, they would be playing against a team that - if they both got to the final - that play a totally different way and that poses entirely different challenges. But they've been ones that they've been able to manage at different times during the year.

"But it's very tough for them and the learning they can take out of last weekend is that they need far more in the armoury. They need to make certain that if they play against a team that just stops them playing entirely, that they have to have a couple of other plans."
