Keith Wood resurrects the classic sports moments that captured his imagination as a young boy

For those of more recent generations, rugby legend Keith Wood would feature in many a classic childhood sporting memory from television.

Tonight on Off The Ball, the former Ireland captain shared some of the moments that captured his own imagination in his younger days.

The first dates back to the 1977 FA Cup final between Manchester United and Liverpool which the Red Devils won 2-1.

"I remember nothing except for the Man United team. I was five years of age. I've been a Man United fan ever since," said Keith.

"It's the memory, I'm five years of age, the earliest moments of sport I can remember watching on the television."

Muhammad Ali passed away at the weekend and his 1978 bout against Leon Spinks is also a cherished memory for Keith, who was six at the time.

"I begged my father could I stay up. That match was on at about 2 o'clock in the morning and I begged to be allowed to watch it," he said.

"It was that huge sense that the world is watching."

And the final of the trilogy was Seve Ballasteros' British Open win at Royal Lytham in 1979.

"The shot from the car park," Keith opened. "He was so swashbuckling and the fact that he had tattooed on his arm the image of him gesticulating up from that win, he just was so flamboyant and again, everybody watched it."

He also shared a story about meeting Seve years later as an adult in 2003.
