Kenny Cunningham highlights the changes Liverpool need to make after Europa League final loss

Kenny Cunningham feels Liverpool shouldn't give up on Christian Benteke and that they need to solve problems further back most of all.

Joining Off The Ball after the Reds' 3-1 loss to Sevilla in the Europa League final, he felt they can have no complaints about losing after being outclassed by the La Liga side in the second half.

And he highlighted areas Jurgen Klopp can look to strengthen heading into next season and feels it won't necessarily mean a huge financial investment, although they will need players that can slot straight into the first team rather than as squad players.

"I wouldn't necessarily be worried about Liverpool's strikers heading into next season. Sturridge, Origi, Danny Ings for me is someone who will come back strong. The only conversation surrounds maybe Benteke. I wouldn't even give up on Benteke. I think again he's a different option to what they have in the squad high up the pitch," he said.

"I don't think their problems start there. For me, their problems are slightly further back in that central area, centre-half and maybe one of the full-backs areas. That's where I'd be looking to really strengthen the team."

A dominant central midfielder to play alongside Jordan Henderson is one addition Kenny recommends, picking out Borussia Dortmund's Ilkay Gundogan as an example.

But he feels left-back Alberto Moreno, who was error-prone defensively tonight is one who may depart.

"Moreno for me is turning into a big problem. As much as he catches the eye going forward, you can't carry a player [who] consistently in the left-back position makes poor decisions, doesn't sense danger and doesn't get himself into better positions and also in one-v-one situations," he said.
