Ronald Koeman dreams of a return to Barcelona

Everton manager Ronald Koeman has given the clearest indication yet that he hopes to return to Barcelona to manage the club.

Koeman played for the Catalan giants for six seasons in the early 1990s and scored the winning goal in the 1992 European Cup Final against Sampdoria. He is fondly remembered by Barcelona's fans as 'Tintin', due to his resemblance of the Belgian cartoon character.

The Dutch manager joined Everton at the start of the season, and despite a slow start, they will return to European football next season. The Goodison Park side are currently in seventh place in the Premier League, and will play in next season's Europa League.

Koeman has told Catalan newspaper Sport that he still hopes to manage Barcelona and the Netherlands before he retires.

"In my life as a professional coach I have two dreams to fulfill. One, coach the selection of my country, Holland. I have been able to do so, but my obligation to Everton has prevented me... My other wish, my other dream, is to train one day at Barça. That's the truth."

Despite his dreams of returning to the Camp Nou, Koeman says he is hopeful of having a successful season next year with Everton, as the club look to improve in his second year in charge.

"We have a very powerful and exciting project and we will reinforce our best to try to reach the next season the Champions League."

Koeman's comments will come as a worry to Everton as Barcelona are currently looking for Luis Enrique's replacement. Earlier this season, Enrique confirmed he was to step down at the end of the season, after three years in charge.
