Leicester retain hope after narrow loss at Atletico Madrid

Leicester still remain well in contention to reach the UEFA Champions League semi finals after a narrow defeat away to last season's runners up Atletico Madrid.

Craig Shakespeare's side only lost 1-0 in the Spanish capital thanks to Antoine Griezmann's first half penalty.

Atletico were unable to add to that lead with the second leg of the quarter final tie to come next week.

Griezmann won the penalty after going down at the outside edge of the box after making contact with Marc Albrighton.

The France forward then stepped up to convert the spot kick.

Earlier, Koke had hit the post with a shot from range, while Fernando Torres also missed a presentable opportunity.

Meanwhile, Atletico's city rivals and their conquerors in last season's final, Real Madrid, earned a 2-1 win away at German champions Bayern Munich.

It was the home side who led after Arturo Vidal headed Bayern in front on 25 minutes.

But he then fired a penalty over the bar.

Cristiano Ronaldo levelled for Real just after half time with a well taken finish after a cross from the right flank.

Bayern suffered a setback on the hour when Javi Martinez was sent off and Real added to their woes when Ronaldo scored his second with 13 minutes to go.
