"My Olympic dream was robbed!" - Incensed Michael Conlan hits out after controversial Rio exit

Michael Conlan says his Olympic dream was "robbed" from him after a hugely controversial Bantamweight quarter-final in Rio de Janeiro.

Speaking to Newstalk's Richie McCormack after the bout, which saw the judges award the win to Russia's Vladimir Nikitin, Conlan was livid.

"I'm absolutely devastated. My Olympic dream was robbed from me today," he said, adding that it "has been a horrendous week for Irish boxing" in light of other results and decisions against Team Ireland.

"We haven't got any favours. I watched last night and I watched the heavyweight final and after what happened to Katie today, that can't happen to me, they couldn't do that for a whole nation to be watching - all of Ireland watching - they couldn't go and rob me, could they? But in fact they did. You saw the Russian's reaction after. He didn't believe he won. I didn't believe he won. The crowd didn't believe he won. I don't even think his corner believed he won."

He also stated he would not fight in a World Amateur Boxing Association (AIBA) event again, saying, "One thing's for sure. I'm not boxing in AIBA competitions again."

Conlan also emphasised his feeling that "Olympic boxing is dead".

"People are questioning Irish boxing but why not question the judging here," he added.
