Balotelli can't be trusted to be the main man - Pat Nevin on Liverpool's new boy

Pat Nevin believes Liverpool's new signing Mario Balotelli is too inconsistent and unreliable.

The former Chelsea and Everton midfielder joined us on Off The Ball as always this Monday to review the weekend's action and he started by giving his take on the big transfer story of the day.

"As a player that you'd want to come in to be your main man, you would worry about it being Balotelli. I would worry about it because he is not trustworthy. He's a fantastic player and misunderstood but quite often he won't do enough in a game," said Pat.

But he does think Balotelli would be a decent option when manager Brendan Rodgers wants to play two up front at home.

Nevin is also sure that Arsenal will be definites for the Top Four, although he thinks they are a couple of players short for the title, while he also heaped praise on Chelsea and Diego Costa who has made a good start to the season up front.

He also analysed Manchester United and believes Louis Van Gaal will ask questions of his players by shifting their positions around. But he still believes that the Top Four still appears to be a long shot.
