After putting up with criticism after his role prominent role in Liverpool's Premier League defeat at Bournemouth last week, the Reds' young goalkeeper Loris Karius did not take that lying down.
In an interview with The Daily Mail published last Friday, the 23-year-old German hit out at Sky Sports pundit Gary Neville in particular, saying of the former Manchester United one-club man: "I don’t care what Gary Neville said. He was a manager for a short bit and now he is back to being an expert again."
Neville probably had the latest laugh though as Karius was again at fault for Dimitri Payet's goal as Liverpool drew with West Ham on Sunday.
Fellow Sky pundit Jamie Carragher's advice to Karius in the wake of that public sniping has been to "shut up and do your job".
That need to get the head down and make improvements on the training ground is something ex-Ireland and Chelsea full-back Paddy Mulligan concurs with to a degree.
But he also feels that Karius should take Neville's words with a pinch of salt.
"He should just ignore Gary Neville. All you need to know about Gary Neville is to say one word: Valencia! He had a nightmare there and now he's pontificating on Sky...you've got some nerve as far as I'm concerned to go on television and criticise anybody or any club, be it Man United, Liverpool," Paddy told Newstalk.com.
"It's embarrassing because he had an embarrassing time at Valencia."
Paddy also feels that making tactical adjustments on a big screen inside a studio does not tally with real-life work on the training ground or with games - as Neville discovered when he went to Valencia for that inauspicious spell.
"He plays Subbuteo football, as I call it, on a Monday night where he has little men [on the screen] that he can move here and there. But it's a bit different when you're dealing with humans - and you're in the heat of the battle," he told me.
On a weekend which saw England defender John Stones perform poorly for Manchester City at Leicester, Paddy also gave his take on the intensity of punditry coverage when it comes to the ex-Everton player and Karius.
"He's been crucified but Stones can do whatever he likes. He can make mistake after mistake after mistake. He did the very same thing at Everton," said Paddy.
