While Liverpool's Loris Karius (and West Ham opposite number Darren Randolph) hogged the headlines for goalkeeping errors, Pat Nevin has pointed to the Reds' bench as a factor in Sunday's Premier League draw.
A 2-2 result to follow up a 4-3 loss at Bournemouth has impacted Liverpool's title challenge.
Philippe Coutinho's ankle injury robs Jurgen Klopp of a key option, while Daniel Sturridge was absent at Anfield on Sunday.
With the remaining front-line players starting and Liverpool seeking a winner, the bench read as follows: Ragnar Klavan, Alberto Moreno, Lucas Leiva, Simon Mignolet, Ben Woodburn, Ovie Ejaria and Trent Alexander-Arnold.
While the defensive players possess experience on that bench, the latter three names are inexperienced teenagers.
Pat feels that was a factor as the Reds chased a winner.
"You look down at that bench in the second half, thinking 'what can I do to change it?'" he said on Off The Ball.
"And to be fair, that was not a strong looking bench and it certainly wasn't a bench that had A) Strength, B) Depth and C) Any sort of age on it at all.
"They were a bunch of kids really, no experience at all and that's a lot to ask for when you're asking them to turn up and completely and utterly change everything. That's really pushing it. Not many kids can do that."
Meanwhile, Klopp decided to take aim at pundits Gary and Phil Neville over their criticism of Karius' performances but Pat feels silence might serve better from the Liverpool boss.
"Klopp, I don't think he should get dragged into it. It's a no-win there," he said, adding that his advice to Klopp would be"'Just be quiet' and if you believe in your goalkeeper, he'll show it."
And Pat expects Klopp might strengthen the goalkeeping position at Liverpool in January with an experienced addition.
