Pat Nevin on how a "big, big club seems to be dwarfing" Adam Lallana

Wayne Rooney might have scored Manchester United's winner against Liverpool on Sunday but Pat Nevin was not wholly impressed by his overall performance.

The former Chelsea and Everton winger joined Off The Ball as always on a Monday and admitted he had to double-check to make sure what team Rooney was playing for at times in a performance littered with poor quality touches from both sides.

"Wayne Rooney, honestly I thought was he was playing for Liverpool half the time at the start of the game with the amount of times the ball was bouncing off him. You can't say he's not a good technical player but I had to look twice to see if Herrera or Lingard were playing," said Pat.

But also of interest was the point of attack on Liverpool's side where Roberto Firmino earned some praise for his display as a False 9 in some quarters.

"I thought there was one danger area [for United] between the left-back and left centre-back," Pat said, explaining how a few raking passes from Firmino towards runners heading into that zone almost paid dividends for Liverpool, and adding that the Brazilian has "good game intelligence".

However, Pat also spoke of his disappointment with Adam Lallana, who he feels suddenly looks "lightweight" and appears devoid of confidence.

"A big, big club seems to be dwarfing him and it seems to be weighing down on him," said Pat of the former Southampton captain.
