Paul Geaney aiming to help Kerry drive on from "unfulfilling" 2016

Kerry star Paul Geaney is gearing up to make 2017 a year to remember after an "unfulfilling" 2016 for the Kingdom in last year's All Ireland Championship.

Geaney and his colleagues reached the semi finals, only to come out the wrong side of the semi final thriller against eventual champions Dublin at Croke Park.

Geaney would score 1-4 in that match that turned out to be just Kerry's fourth match of the Championship.

"It was extremely unfulfilling really and it was almost a premature ending to the season. You don't feel that you're really after getting going and all of a sudden it's over and the curtains are down and it was only around the 1st of September," the 26 year old corner forward said on Off The Ball.

"It was tough to take that way. At the start of the season when you're wearing a Kerry jersey, you hope to be there the third week of September and when you're not, it just feels premature. It's a big let down and very disappointing if you don't reach an All Ireland final or win an All Ireland."

He added that losing momentum to Dublin in last year's semi final thriller led to Kerry's defeat by a narrow two point margin, although he touched on working on his own impressive kicking conversion rate.

The Paul Geaney Bar in Dingle has been a key part of his life, intertwined with the football.

"It's part of my life everyday. There aren't many minutes that go by when I'm not thinking about football really, so it comes part and parcel with the pub. The family have been in the hospitality and pub industry since '78 when my grandfather moved into that premises. It's been in the family for a long time," he said, adding that he used to live over the pub and now works there.
