Robbie Savage bemused by focus on Wes Hoolahan and Shay Given on Macclesfield experience

On Wednesday, BT Sport pundit and former Wales midfielder Robbie Savage and ex-Ireland goalkeeper Shay Given were in Dublin for the launch of the eir Sport pack.

And while they were in town, they took time out for a quick with me on Team 33, with Ireland's defeat to Serbia and Wales overtaking of Martin O'Neill's team in that World Cup qualifying group casting a shadow.

You can listen to Savage and Given via the podcast player or stream/download on iTunes where there are recent interviews with Darius Vassell, India manager Stephen Constantine and ex-Everton striker Tomasz Radzinski:

With Ireland's momentum petering out as the group has progressed, Savage discussed his own experience from the Euro 2004 qualifying campaign when Wales started off with four wins from four including a 2-1 victory over the giants Italy, before losing their next four games and then a subsequent playoff tie against Russia by a narrow 1-0 aggregate score, having drawn in Moscow.

Meanwhile, Given talked about his current status which has seen him train with Macclesfield as he awaits his next club opportunity and also touched on whether following in the footsteps of Robbie Keane by moving to the Indian Super League would be a viable option for himself.

Plus, Savage had a word or two in regards to a particular Irish TV pundit who bemused him with his insistence on bringing up Wes Hoolahan and talked about his recent BBC Radio 5 Live experience alongside his mother as she defended him from texters and callers-in to the show.

eir Sport announced an exciting line up of live content for the new season on the eir Sport Pack. The UEFA Champions League, the UEFA Europa League, the Premier League, rugby’s European Champions Cup, the AIB Club Championships and the Allianz Leagues will all form part of a bumper season ahead.
