Curran against any restrictions on short kickouts

Former Roscommon goalkeeper Shane Curran does not want to see any changes to the kickout rules for goalkeepers.

It comes after GAA Director General Pauric Duffy floated the idea of adding a rule that requires goalkeeper kickouts to go beyond the 45 metre line.

Curran gave his take on the issue on Off The Ball tonight:

"I don't think we want a return to the hob-nailed boots, the lash it down the middle and a scrum around the middle of the field," he said.

"Coaches are employing a number of different tactics now to retain possession from the kickout and it's a core skill now of any team that want to employ tactics that will give them the best opportunity of retaining possession of the football."

Curran added that he does not agree with the idea that short kickouts have ruined the game, before focusing on Dublin and Stephen Cluxton's methods.

"If they want to rule out the short kickout, they have to have an equalisation or standardisation of the rule at every single ground. I don't think it's in the interest of the game to do that," he said.
