Shane Lowry's "enjoying his golf again" as he prepares to take on Shanghai's course

Shane Lowry feels like his best form is starting to return to him as he prepares for the WGC-HSBC Champions tournament in Shanghai.

In an up and down year, the Offaly golfer's high point of the 2016 golf calendar came when he finished tied for second at the US Open - almost claiming the maiden major victory of his pro career - although he ultimately missed out on a place in Darren Clarke's Ryder Cup selection before Europe lost to USA at Hazeltine.

Speaking to Nick Dye of the European Tour ahead of the HSBC Champions tournament, Lowry is hoping to end the year on a high.

"It's been pretty... I would call it average. So yeah, I'm here this week and hopefully I have a good week. I feel like I'm playing okay and I'm kinda enjoying my golf again. Obviously I want to do well and I'll see how it goes," he said.

He is also hopeful that the Sheshan Golf Club course will play into his favour.

"I felt like I played okay [at the Alfred Dunhill Championship] and felt like I was playing okay at the British Masters, so I'm playing okay coming in here and I like the course. I think it's a great course, probably one of the best we've got here.

"Hopefully the rain stays away for the week and we get 72 holes done and hopefully I do alright. The course is tough. It's quite demanding off the tee, especially this year. I think with the warm summers, they didn't get to over-seed the rough which means it's Bermuda rough and the ball sits right down to the bottom. So driving's key this week which kind of suits my game."

He also spoke warmly of Shanghai as he soaks in the atmosphere pre-tournament.

"It's a nice place Shanghai - a lovely city," he said.
