Who has had the shortest reign as a Premier League manager?

Mike Phelan's reign as Hull City manager ended on Tuesday night.

The former Manchester United assistant manager was named a Hull's caretaker manager at the start of the season, before being named manager in October. His 20 league games in charge in both a caretaker and permanent capacity saw  only three wins. One of those came after he was named manager.

Despite Phelan's short tenure, he is not even the shortest-reigning manager in the Premier League this season. Bob Bradley's 11 games in charge of Swansea puts him in an unwanted position in the top-five.

Here is how Bradley, and four others got on in their short tenures.

Bob Bradley (11 games)

The first American to manage in the Premier League, Bradley was the surprise appointment to replace  Francesco Guidolin as manager. His 11 matches saw the team win two games, while losing eight.

The peak of Bradley's era came in a chaotic 5-4 win over Crystal Palace. The game saw Fernando Llorente score twice in stoppage time to earn a famous win. Bradley has since been replaced by Paul Clement.

Sammy Lee (11 games)

As the noble assistant to Sam Allardyce, Lee replaced 'Big Sam' at Bolton in April 2007. He lasted until October of the following season, but only won one of his 11 matches in charge.

While Lee's time as manager was not the best, he is a respected assistant manager having worked with Liverpool, Southampton and England. His was Sam Allardyce's number two during earlier this year during Allardyce's brief spell as England manager.

Jacques Santini (11 games)

In the summer of 2004, Tottenham looked like they pulled off a serious coup with the signing of Jacques Santini. The France manager would join the north London side after Euro 2004.

Santini's spell was short, but not sweet. He resigned in November, having won three games, citing personal issues. It was widely reported, he left due to issues with Sporting Director Frank Arnesen.

Paul Sturrock (9 games)

Having replaced Gordon Strachan as manager in April 2004, Sturrock's brief reign lasted over two separate seasons, before he was sacked two games into the 2004/05 campaign.

The Scot's reign saw him win his last game in charge, at home to Blackburn Rovers. It was his only home win in the spell. The nine-game reign was the only time he managed in the English top tier.

Les Reed (7 games)

Despite having lasted less than two months as Charlton manager in 2004, Reed is currently one of the most respected figure in the Premier League. The 64-year-old is the Director of Football at Southampton and is charge of recruitment at the club.

His successes at Southampton were preceded by a disastrous spell at The Valley. Having held a similar position at Charlton as he does now, Reed replaced Iain Dowie as manager, but won only one league match.
