As he prepares to face Liverpool, how has Sterling impacted positively on Man City's play?

One of the main question marks as the Premier League returns this weekend is the Aguero predicament?

Should you put him back in your Fantasy Football team, or should you wait a couple of weeks until he has a run of games under his belt after his recent injury?

But in matters more grounded in reality, Manchester City manager Manuel Pellegrini will probably end up having to start his lead striker against Liverpool in the Saturday evening kick-off given that deputy Wilfried Bony is ruled out with an injury of his own.

However, the biggest subplot in these type of games often revolve around players returning to former clubs after acrimonious (at least in the fan and media sense) transfers, which means cameramen will be pointing their lenses towards City winger Raheem Sterling with more regularity than usual.

His £49M fee to move from Anfield put plenty of pressure on his shoulders and so far he has made an encouraging start to life at City with the raw statistics reading four goals in 11 Premier League games and a further goal in four Champions League ties.

In all, he has created 26 chances in 15 games across the two competitions - hardly mind-blowing - but its his wider contribution that has been of benefit quite literally.

Whereas in more recent seasons, Samir Nasri and David Silva have occupied the wide positions as players who like to drift in centrally, Sterling and Jesus Navas on the other flank can go down the outside with blistering pace and stretch defences, as they did in their win over Chelsea earlier in the campaign.

And in Sterling's case he can also cut inside and additionally start centrally as he did in the game against Bournemouth when he scored a hat-trick from a position just behind Wilfried Bony.

Indeed, 56 per cent of the chances he has created have come in the central attacking midfield zone, while left-back Aleksandar Kolarov seems to enjoy playing behind him. Last season, the Serbian defender created one chance per match across the season in comparison to last season.

As for the direction of City attacks, there has been a slight increase in the amount coming from the left flank (36 per cent in comparison to 34 per cent) and also the club are now the team with the joint-most crosses per game which is up from 21 per game to 25, with Kolarov the most prolific deliverer as the over-lapper behind Sterling.

Off The Ball's live game this Sunday is the 4pm kick off between Tottenham and West Ham with commentary and analysis from Dave McIntyre and Kenny Cunningham.
