GALLERY: From Hoolahan to Long, the League of Ireland provided the launchpad for these 10 internationals

With Richie Towell making the move to Brighton, it increases the number of former League of Ireland players who have made the step up to English football.

Of course, the star of Dundalk's back-to-back league titles has been there before - albeit only on trial - with Cardiff City, but this time he will hope to prolong that stay and put himself into a louder conversation for a place in the Ireland squad.

Towell's trajectory is even more important in a world where an increasing number of Irish internationals have started to hone their early skills here before trying their luck in England, in comparison to continued trend of players who sign for clubs in their mid-teens.

Looking back over the last year, ten Ireland squad call-ups either started life in the League of Ireland or spent a significant portion of their early career here.

On this week's Team 33, we looked at the cases of Seamus Coleman, James McClean, Shane Long and Sensei Dunphy's apprentice Wes Hoolahan in detail to look back on their transitions:

But there are more than just those four and here are a full 10 that have done themselves justice after crossing the Irish Sea (refresh the page if the gallery doesn't appear automatically):
