Wexford hurler Conor McDonald has praised Davy Fitzgerald for bringing a level of enthusiasm that is "off the wall" to the setup.
Speaking to Newstalk's Dave McIntyre at the launch of the Bord Gáis Energy Summer of Hurling Launch on Wednesday, McDonald and his team-mates are due to go to a warm weather training camp with the current manager in order to build up for the Leinster Championship which begins for them on May 27th.
Although, Fitzgerald has been in the spotlight after his actions in the recent Allianz League semi final against Tipperary, results on the pitch were excellent up to then after the former Clare manager took charge for 2017.
"It's hard to put your finger on anything that's changed as such. His enthusiasm is obviously just off the wall and I think everyone knows that," said the 21 year old who has been part of the senior Wexford panel since 2013.
"It really is infectious in ways and I would say that that's something that rubs off whether you're Davy Fitz or a normal guy. If you're seriously enthusiastic, you will rub off on people.
"Other than that, he's just striving for consistency really and that's what we're all looking for really."
A senior by the age of 18, McDonald already has leadership responsibility from the front and he discussed how he deals with the pressure.
He said: "There have been a fair few occasions now where I haven't really been in games and it's allowed other fellas to get scores and win games and I wouldn't say that if we lose, it's because I haven't performed or I haven't got that many scores. My job isn't just to score. If it was, I wouldn't be on Davy Fitz's team anyway. That's probably one thing that shows that if you work hard, you're going to be on the team."
