Are Tyson Fury's controversial remarks impacting on the reaction to his world title win?

It wasn't the greatest fight of all time but Tyson Fury's performance in beating heavyweight boxing's dominant figure Wladimir Klitschko was an "exceptional  display".

That's according to former World Super Middleweight Champion Richie Woodhall, who joined Off The Ball and The Guardian's Sean Ingle to talk about the Dusseldorf bout, Fury's rise to world heavyweight champ and what the future may hold as the sport heads into a potential new era in that weight class.

Woodhall also rubbished the claims made in hindsight that Klitschko's age was the problem for the Ukrainian but pointed more to the style of fight.

"He clearly did not know how to close the gap because all his career he's boxed at range and at distance," he said.

As for Fury, Woodhall said that "I really believe that he will win the re-match" and that he must replicate the at-distance style from Saturday night's victory.

"He's got to fight with the same ferocity and the same urgency and if he does that, then he beats him and he beats him more convincingly this time," said Woodhall.

But the issue of Fury's homophobic comments were also touched upon, as well as the boxer's response to the scrutiny over those and other remarks of a similar nature.

On the reaction to Fury amidst the win and the controversy, Ingle said: "It's interesting. There is a lot of love and affection for him but there is a percentage of the population as well that won't be interested.

"There was a lot of interest in him [online] and he won't appeal to everyone but I still think people will want to see how he does. If there's a re-match at Wembley, I'm sure it will do very well."
