26 sporting federations apply to become an Olympic sport

Snooker, surfing and baseball are among the sports hoping to gain Olympic status to Tokyo 2022.

26 sporting bodies have applied to the Tokyo 2020 Organising Committee to become additional events. A shortlist of organisations the will reach the next stage are to be announced later this month.

The final decision on the sports that will gain Olympic status for the Games will be revealed at the IOC Congress in Brazil next year.
