A 3-5-2 could allow both Keane and Hoolahan to co-exist against Poland

Rumour has it that Martin O'Neill may unleash a 3-5-2 formation when Ireland take on Poland tomorrow evening.

It's not a formation that the Boys in Green have been accustomed to in recent years, but that does not mean it will not suit some of the players.

It would allow our most reliable finisher, Robbie Keane, to start in the same XI as Wes Hoolahan who can dip into a roaming role in advanced midfield.

I've picked a team below which I believe would give a good balance between attack and defence with Seamus Coleman and Robbie Brady (or James McClean) given licence to attack thanks to the extra defender at the back.

Both Marc Wilson and Ciaran Clark would be able to fit in the left centre-back position, given their familiarity with the role, while Shane Long's ability to pull out wide would give extra support to the attacking wing-backs.

Hull's Stephen Quinn would also be an option to bring more dynamism in midfield than Glenn Whelan. The Stoke player would be more useful as the defensive option in a 4-4-2 or 4-5-1, but with a 3-5-2, one can afford to have a more attack-minded player beside James McCarthy to also link up with Hoolahan.
