Andy Lee: "I had it a draw"

While the fallout from Canelo Álvarez and Gennady Golovkin's unification bout on Saturday night / Sunday morning continues, Andy Lee believes that a draw was the correct result.

He told Off The Ball that when he initially watched the fight he thought that GGG had shaded it - but when he rewatched the competition with the commentary turned off and without the aid of Twitter, he scored it a draw.

"I thought a draw was a fair result," he reflected while adding it was hard to imagine how Adalaide Byrd scored the fight 118-110 in favour of the Mexican.

"You know yourself if you won it or if you lost it ... I thought it was very telling that neither fighter complained directly after the decision."

Lee warned that a "herd mentality" can set in when commentators believe one fighter has the advantage - but he believed that Canelo had answers for all the questions which Golovkin's direct approach asked.

When quizzed about the prospect of a fight between Golovkin and Billy Joe Saunders, Andy replied, "I'd like to see it - why wouldn't I."

Lee also described today's announcement that 38-year old former England and Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand will crossover into professional boxing as "mad."
