Former Liverpool defender Mark Lawrenson believes that Pep Guardiola's anger in part led him to make decisions that cost Manchester City in their Champions League match against Liverpool.
Lawro joined Joe and Kev on Off the Ball to discuss the action from the Etihad, and what it means for the competition.
"Would it have made a difference if City had been awarded the second goal? Yes. Do I think City would have ultimately won the tie and gone through? No - I think Liverpool would have scored. If you really look at it over the two games - if you split the two games into four quarters - I think Liverpool won three of them and deserved to go through."
"City worried me in the second half last night. They just completely fell to pieces, and that's a real worry - that's three defeats on the trot."
In terms of Pep Guardiola's approach, Lawro is worried that the Catalan is among a breed of managers that tries to be 'too clever' when confronted with tactical conundrums. But the decision to change Fernandinho to centre-back was tainted by the anger felt by Guardiola, according to Lawro.
"None of the Liverpool players were anywhere near Fernandinho in the first half. I think sometimes, some of these managers try and be a bit too clever. He went to three at the back, one of them was Walker - and they were all over Liverpool. I just think he lost it at half time. Angry managers are not good managers, if they are angry all the time. I don't think that if you are angry, you make good decisions - that is players as well as managers also."
In terms of Liverpool's chances, Lawro was cautiously confident.
"I think they can win it. I'm not sitting on the fence, but because of the way they have been defensively then suddenly if you draw Madrid, you might have Bale and Ronaldo switch on for thirty minutes and you could be out of the competition."
