Are Man City being targeted unfairly?

Gary Breen joined Saturday's Off the Ball to discuss Man City's draw at Burnley.

Despite taking an early lead through a stunning Danilo strike - Sean Dyche's charges earned a point when Gundmundsson equalised late on.

Given City's dominance this season on the pitch - some teams have approached matches against Guardiola's side in a more physical manner.

Speaking about the treatment being dished out to the league leaders, former Irish international Gary Breen thinks the Man City manager has a point but he was quick to criticise the English media in protecting their own internationals.

"Yeah I think Man City have really put it to the fore now - they're very vocal in the press,"he told Nathan Murphy. "Even when you just said Johnny Giles was coming out with - I couldn't help but laugh to myself. The team he played for at Leeds - he's probably looking at these tackles and thinking 'just play on, there's nothing in it'...he's an iconic player and what a player he was.

"He was in a tough team and he must look at the way football has changed over the years but certainly in this modern day football - I think Pep Guardiola has got a perfect, valid point.

"Some of the challenges have been career-threatening. I like the physical aspect of the game but I can recognise straightaway a challenge that potentially breaks someone's leg.

"Now we're talking about Seamus Coleman suddenly coming back from his type of challenge and I spoke to you guys before about the impact it had at Sunderland when Colin Healy had his leg broken in a horrific challenge away at Coventry and the difficulties he had in terms of coming back and becoming the player that everyone thought.

"It is interesting now in terms of people going on in the media and backing Manchester City and yeah, the tackles are bad because they're lesser players making the tackles.

"When it was Harry Kane making that challenge he did on Sterling and Dele Alli - the darlings of the English press over here - they didn't make a big deal of it at all they just said 'well this is the way it was' - they were shocking challenges at the time," he added.
