Aston Villa appoint Steve Bruce as their new manager

Steve Bruce is back in management today after being appointed the new Aston Villa manager.

Bruce, 55, takes over at the club following the departure of Roberto Di Matteo last week and looks to improve on a record of 10 points from 11 games, including seven draws, three losses and only a solitary win.

The former Birmingham City manager steps back into management following his departure from Hull City before the start of the Premier League season.

Bruce has overseen four promotions from the Championship to the Premier League which has seen him as one of the top candidates in the market at the moment.

"It’s a wonderful opportunity. It is one of the big clubs of this country. To be given the opportunity to manage it is terrific," Bruce told the club website.

"I relish the challenge of trying to take the Club where it wants to go and needs to be – and try to turn around the misfortune we seem to have had over the past few years. I am absolutely delighted to have been given the chance. I hope I can do my stuff."

Other names in the mix were former West Brom manager Steve Clarke and Tim Sherwood, who managed the club for a spell in between 2013 and 2014.
